The exhibition, which is co-hosted by Reed Exhibitions and Shanghai Environmental Protection Industry Association, has received great support from leading environmental solutions companies and China's key government authorities including nine regional environmental protection associations. These agencies are playing a central role in helping to clean up China’s natural resources and encouraging firms to use “green” power. “The research and development of eco-resources has become a key priority for local government, so it is great to see an exhibition that brings together seasoned experts in the environmental sector under one roof,” says Mr. Zheng from Shanghai Environmental Protection Industry Association.

According to the country's city environmental management report released on June 2nd last year, Shanghai's investment in the environmental industry in 2004 accounted for 22.5 billion RMB, around 3.03% of the city's GDP. These statistics are echoed in national figures. In recent years, China’s environmental protection sector swelled by 15-20% allowing many green businesses the opportunity to play a salient role in transforming the way that companies manage their resources. Last year, Pollutec China attracted over 200 environmental solution companies from fifteen countries and regions. Twenty-eight percent of exhibitors attended Pollutec China 04 said they expected business leads to total at least USD 500,000 in real income within the 12 months after the show closed. “The environmental sector has grown significantly in the past few years as China becomes aware of the need to manage natural resources. In SUEZ, we are committed towards developing new initiatives in the field of water and wastewater treatment, garbage collection and incineration to ensure that China develops in a way that protects and contributes to sustainable development.” says Mr. Michel Detay, President from SUEZ China.
