Environmental Forensics: Focus on Emerging Contaminants

Emerging contaminants is a generic term used to identify new contaminants with unknown effects or known contaminants with newly understood or previously misunderstood effects with the potential for environmental or human health harm. Many of these newly recognized contaminants are dispersed to the environment from domestic, commercial, and industrial uses and are derived from sources and pathways such as agricultural, municipal, and industrial wastewater and other processes. The purpose of this workshop is to provide an understanding of how environmental forensic techniques can be used to assist in the identification, source determination, fate and transport of emerging contaminants such as PDBEs, perfluorocarbons, perchlorate, and MTBE.
