Addressing the climate challenge - what can agriculture do? Ideas from Europe and beyond

Conférence réservée aux professionnels / Gratuit
Lieu : Bruxelles - Belgique
In Europe and in the world, different initiatives aim to reduce the contribution of the agricultural sector to greenhouse gas emissions and use the potential of land in carbon storage. The objective of this symposium is to provide stakeholders, policy makers and the research community with a clearer view of what is being done in the matter, and what options can be envisaged.

The symposium is an essential part of the FP6 project PICCMAT (Policy Incentives for Climate Change Mitigation Agricultural Techniques, http://www.climatechangeintelligence.org/piccmat/). It will close this 2-year project and introduce the final results of the research, in particular on the mitigation potential of agriculture in Europe, and policy recommendations for the coming years.

International experts from New Zealand, the USA, and the United Nations will provide information on CC mitigation in agriculture outside Europe and globally. Then the PICCMAT main results will be introduced and linked to other European research projects. In the afternoon, four European Member States will then present how they deal with the issue in their own countries, with very interesting initiatives adapted to their national conditions.
